ANTI-CHILD LABOUR DAY: A CALL TO PROTECT THE INNOCENCE OF CHILDHOOD

Child labour is defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, potential and dignity. It refers to work that is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful to children. It interferes with their schooling, either by depriving them of the opportunity to attend school, obliging them to leave school prematurely or requiring them to attempt to combine school attendance with excessively long and heavy work. Across the globe, an estimated 160 million children are engaged in child labour, according to the International Labour Organization, and nearly half of them are involved in hazardous work. These are not just statistics, these are real children with dreams and potential, who are forced to sacrifice their future for the harsh demands of survival.
