In 2009, Rukhsana Kausar, a 19-year-old girl from Rajouri, became a symbol of bravery. One-night, armed militants entered her home, threatening her family. Instead of giving in to fear, Rukhsana acted with incredible courage. She picked up an axe, attacked the militant leader and snatched his rifle. In a matter of minutes, she fired back, killing one terrorist and injuring another. Her heroic act not only saved her family but also sent a strong message against terrorism. Later, she joined the Jammu and Kashmir police, proving that courage and determination can help one rise above any challenge. Rukhsana’s story is a powerful reminder that bravery is not defined by gender or background, it comes from the heart.
Tajamul Islam, a young girl from a small town in Bandipora, has made Kashmir proud on the global stage. Despite coming from a modest background, she trained hard in martial arts and, in 2016, became the first Kashmiri to win a gold medal at the World Kickboxing Championship in Italy. Her journey was not easy. In Kashmir, sports facilities for girls were limited and she had to struggle to find proper training. But with her family’s support and her unbreakable spirit, she overcame every obstacle. Even at a young age, Tajamul became an inspiration for many girls in Kashmir, proving that dreams have no limits when backed by hard work and determination.
Raja Begum, a woman from Kupwara, turned her personal tragedy into a mission of kindness. After losing her husband, she could have given up on life. Instead, she dedicated herself to helping children who had lost their parents due to conflict. She started an orphanage with very little money, providing shelter, food and education to orphans. Over the years, she has cared for hundreds of children, ensuring they have a safe and loving home. Despite financial struggles, she never stopped helping those in need. Her selflessness has made her a true hero in Kashmir, showing that love and compassion can change lives.
Ruveda Salam broke barriers when she became Kashmir’s first female Indian Police Service officer. Coming from a conservative society, she faced many challenges along the way. Many believed that women could not handle tough roles in law enforcement but Ruveda proved them wrong. She cracked the UPSC exam and became an IPS officer, serving in different parts of India. Her success story has inspired many Kashmiri girls to pursue careers in the civil services and police. She continues to encourage young women to step out of societal limitations and chase their dreams.
Zainab Khan, a schoolgirl from Srinagar, made headlines when she invented an eco-friendly heating device to help people during harsh Kashmiri winters. She noticed how traditional heating methods caused pollution and health problems, so she decided to find a better solution. With her teachers’ help, she designed a low-cost, energy-efficient heating device that is safer and more environmentally friendly. Her invention won national awards and she became an inspiration for young minds in Kashmir.
