Every young person growing up in the beautiful valleys of Kashmir carries a dream within. Someone wants to become a doctor, someone an engineer, someone wants to join the civil services, while another dreams of wearing the uniform of the Indian Army and serving the nation. What is needed is simply that these dreams receive the right direction and opportunities at the right time. The Mega Education and Career Guidance Fest organised in Kupwara emerged as a positive initiative in this direction, where around 500 students received guidance on education, competitive examinations and various career options. Organised by SKIE Jr in collaboration with 160 Territorial Army, the event provided students an opportunity to understand the possibilities before them and give a clearer direction to their future.

During the programme, students were provided information about various prestigious competitive examinations, including CLAT, NEET, JEE, UPSC and CDS. They were guided on how to prepare for these examinations, what study strategies could be followed and what different career opportunities are available in various fields. For any student, choosing a career is not merely about selecting a subject or an examination; it is an important decision that helps determine the direction of their future. In such a situation, receiving information about different options on a single platform becomes a valuable experience for students. For the students of Kupwara, the programme served as an important opportunity to understand their interests, capabilities and future goals.

A special aspect of the event was the interaction between women officers and the students. The women officers interacted with the students and encouraged them to explore a career in the Indian Army. They emphasised the importance of hard work, discipline, confidence and continuous effort. The interaction was particularly inspiring for the girl students, as it provided them an opportunity to understand the opportunities available in the Army and various other professional fields through the experiences of women officers. The interaction also demonstrated that the career landscape before today’s youth has become much wider and that numerous paths are open for students who are willing to work hard.

In Kashmir, education has always been associated with the hope of a better future. Parents here want to see their children move ahead, while young people are also exploring new opportunities through education and competitive examinations. In a district like Kupwara, career awareness programmes become particularly significant as they introduce students to opportunities available at the national level beyond their local surroundings. Many times, talent exists all around us, but students may not know in which direction to take that talent. The right information and guidance can play an important role in bridging that gap.

In the Kashmiri spirit, “Sapne ti bahut chhi, magar sahi raah milan chhi asal kaamyabi”—there may be many dreams, but finding the right path to fulfil them is the first step towards success. The enthusiasm of the students at the Kupwara programme reflected this very spirit. The participation of around 500 students showed that young people are serious about their future and are ready to learn about and explore new opportunities. Information about different fields, from CLAT to NEET, JEE to UPSC and CDS, presented students with a broad picture of the career landscape.

Such an event cannot be viewed merely as a one-day career guidance programme. It also becomes a medium of dialogue between young people and opportunities. When education, career counselling and positive youth engagement come together, students get an opportunity to think about their future with greater clarity. For the 500 students of Kupwara, the experience was connected with new information, new confidence and new possibilities. For some, perhaps it was the first time they seriously considered UPSC or CDS as a future option; someone may have gained new information about preparing for NEET or JEE, while another student may have found their dream of pursuing a career in the Indian Army strengthened further.

Ultimately, the future of any society depends on the dreams of its younger generation and the direction those dreams receive. The Education and Career Guidance Fest organised in Kupwara appeared to strengthen this belief that when students receive the right information, guidance and opportunities, the horizon of their thinking also expands. For these 500 students of Kupwara, this programme may be just a small milestone in their career journey, but for a student, such a milestone can eventually become the beginning of a major achievement. The dreams belong to Kashmir, the destinations belong to the nation, and the path now appears clearer than ever.
